As you might already be aware, the internet used to have more personality and was a lot more fun to browse due to the lack of the centralization that came later with social media services. But is the magic of the early web really gone altogether?
Wiby brings it back #
Wiby is a search engine that is meant to index personal, light, and/or old school websites. It purposefully avoids the massively popular services, bloated websites and SEO farms that usually dominate conventional search engines. This results in a better browsing experience that indexes websites made for fun, like the old days.
It's so lightweight that it can be used by old computers that otherwise wouldn't be able to browse the modern web!
Don't know what to look for? #
Wiby also has a "surprise me!" button which takes you to a random website. It's honestly not that different from a social media feed (except that this is way better because it doesn't try to get you addicted with algorithms and infinite scrolling). So you could use it as a replacement if you're trying to break away.
Self-hostable #
Last but not least, you can host your own instance of Wiby and customize what you want it to index.
